LONDON PATIENT CENTRE

ABOUT US

London has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. It has some of the world’s most innovative treatments and has the latest, most advanced medical technologies in diagnosis and treatment. London Patient Centre is situated in the famous Harley Street medical district in the heart of London’s medical society. The centre offers a range of medical services using a unique medical business model.

SOUND ADVICE

The best thing you can do, if you are healthy, is to stay away from doctors and hospitals. We know that this is not a good marketing strategy for a medical business! However, there is always a potential risk, side effect, or a complication of any medical or surgical treatment. For example, a risk of 1 in 1000 is a small one but this 1 could be you. Even when you have the best healthcare system in the world, the best medical facility, the best protocol, the best technology, and the best healthcare professionals on board, the risk will always be there. Also, the body’s reaction to medications, anaesthesia and surgery can differ from one person to another. If you look around, you will see that the majority of healthy people rely on prevention rather than treatment.

SoundAdvice

You may consider the following points to stay healthy:

  • Stopping smoking if you are a smoker
  • Weight reduction if you are overweight
  • Exercise
  • Alcohol reduction if you are a heavy drinker
  • Healthy eating
  • Good emotional and mental health (stress reduction, relaxation, social activities)
  • General health check-up
  • Optimisation of treatments of existing medical conditions

OUR UNIQUE MEDICAL BUSINESS MODEL

(the Coupled-Uncoupled Model)

Having an illness can be a very distressing experience and having no or little medical knowledge about the illness, tests, diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, potential complications, and the outcome and the progress of disease can make the situation worse. The illness can put the person under lots of pressure and having limited options can make the situation worse and will add more pressure to the already difficult situation. Patients are usually anxious, stressed and worried which make them vulnerable. The patient is likely to go through a complex journey of meeting various healthcare professionals in various departments. The decisions of various healthcare professionals involved in the care of the patient are usually dependent on each other. Therefore, the success, or failure, of this journey depends on many factors including the healthcare system, the existing protocols and guidelines, the medical facility, the medical technologies that are used and the various healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of the patient. So, as you can see, the outcome does not usually depend on one professional but on so many factors. When so many factors are involved, the picture can become vague and cloudy which make the risk of getting an unsatisfactory outcome greater.

As doctors, we are in a privileged position. We have the medical knowledge to look at things from a medical point of view. The majority of patients have no or little medical knowledge and will usually struggle to appreciate the process of history taking, examination, tests, treatment options, outcome, and the progress of disease and the long term effects of the illness. The eye does not usually see what the brain does not know.

The core of our medical business model is the coupled-uncoupled system. We are coupled but at the same time we are uncoupled. We are coupled (i.e. attached, joined, linked) to world-class consultants and top medical facilities and at the same time uncoupled (separated, independent, free) from the consultants and the medical facilities as we don’t receive any money from them. This gives us the opportunity to do what we feel is right for you. Our independent medical centre covers all medical and surgical specialities for adults and children. If you decide to register with us, and we accept your registration, then we ask you to agree to our terms and conditions and pay us a registration fee.

REGISTRATION

Benefits of registering with us:

We will assess your situation in detail and get involved. We will discuss your situation with you and then with senior consultant (s) to decide on the best course of action. You will not be on your own in this journey. We will use our ideal position and take an ownership of your medical problems and concerns and do our best to help, guide and support you. We will take a leading role in your care. Hopefully, our service will make you less anxious, less apprehensive, less worried, and less nervous and put you at ease.

You will be allocated a personal doctor who will oversee the whole process of your treatment. Your personal doctor may accompany you in your consultant clinic appointment to support you and give you reassurance and guidance.

If you are admitted to hospital for less than a week, then we keep an eye on you for that period. Your personal doctor may visit you in hospital and follow the progress of your treatment. If you are admitted for longer than that, then we need to make a different arrangement for you.

Your personal doctor will update the centre about the progress of your treatment.

Your personal doctor will put him/herself in your shoes and the centre as a whole will put itself in your position. If we feel the need to step in, for any reason, then we will do so. In summary, you become us and we become you.

We will follow you up after your treatment as we see appropriate.

Our service will probably save you lots of money in the long run.

The process of registration:

  1. You, or your next of kin, may contact us by phone (we don’t deal with emails, fax, or filling in forms).
  2. The receptionist is instructed to give you an appointment only and not to answer any enquires. Your enquires will be answered by a doctor from the centre when you attend the appointment at our place at Harley Street (please bring any medical reports you have with you). If you are abroad, then the receptionist will give you a telephone appointment and a doctor from the centre will discuss your situation with you over the phone.
  3. When you attend the appointment, the doctor from the centre will look at your case in details and answer any enquires. If the doctor accepts your case and you agree with our terms and conditions, then we will discuss your case with the relevant consultant(s) to determine the best course of action and we will get back you with an action plan and an estimated cost of your tests and treatment.
  4. All the above (points 1, 2 and 3) are for free (you don’t have to pay anything and you are under no obligation to register with us).
  5. If you agree with the action plan and the estimated cost of your tests and treatment and you want to go ahead then we invite you to register with us and pay the registration fee. If you register with us then you become our patient.
  6. You will be glad to know that no forms are needed to fill in. However, we need to know your first name, family name, date of birth, nationality, and phone number for our records and to be able to contact you if needed.
  7. You need to agree and consent to the following before we accept your registration:
    • - We will do our best to look after you and our intention is to provide you with the best possible care but certain things may occur outside of our control e.g. complications. We don’t accept responsibility and you agree that you will not hold us, our directors and staff, liable if things don’t go the way we hoped for. You agree that you will not bring any claim in connection with our services or staff. You will be seen and treated by the consultant throughout the diagnosis and treatment process. The consultant will be in charged, take all clinical decisions, and leads the care.
    • - You give us your consent to share and discuss your medical information with relevant professionals to be able to provide you with the best possible care.
    • - You give us your consent to see your medical records.
    • - You give us your consent to follow you up after you finish your treatment.
    • - You will not ask us to get involved in any legal disputes. We aim to provide a positive input to give you the best possible care. We will not criticise any service. We will not criticise any consultant. If we see that things are not going in the right direction, then we step in to steer things in the right direction in a friendly, considerate way. We may offer guidance, discuss options, and shine a light on things that may have not been seen. We will use our position, medical knowledge, and links and contacts in a supportive manner. We will cooperate with all healthcare professionals and facilities and work together in collaboration to give you the best treatment that can be offered. This, hopefully, will result in a good outcome to all those involved.
    • - You confirm that you have read all the information on this website and understood the content. We intentionally kept the website as one page so you can read it from top to bottom without flicking between pages.

SAFETY NETS

Patient safety is paramount.

Firstly, you are in London where we have one of the best healthcare systems in the world.

Secondly, you are treated in top London medical facilities where we have strict guidelines and protocols to ensure safety, quality, and effectiveness. The medical facilities are world-class and international centres of excellence. The facilities and the services are inspected, monitored, and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (the independent regulator of health and social care in England).

Thirdly, you are treated by consultants who are world-class experts and leaders in their fields. Most are recognised around the world for their expertise. They have been carefully selected for their clinical excellence.

Fourthly, you are not on your own. Your personal doctor is putting him/herself in your shoes and the whole centre is putting itself in your position. We will oversee the whole process of your treatment and step in if needed during the process. You will be signed in by a senior doctor in the centre at the beginning of your registration to accept you as one of our patients and you will be signed off by a senior doctor in the centre at the end of your treatment to indicate our satisfaction of the whole process of your treatment. We will not sign you off if we are not satisfied and we will step in. Even after we sign you off, we will still be following you up as we see appropriate.

LOGISTICS AND SUPPORT SERVICES

If your English is not your first language, an interpreter will be available to assist.

If you need help in the logistics of your treatment (e.g. travel, accommodation, etc.) or help in any other issues, then let us know and we will see what we can do.

FINANCIAL ISSUES

Our registration fee is £3000. This fee will cover the cost of our business (e.g. the cost of overheads, the fees of personal doctors, etc.) and to sustain our services. The fee needs to be paid to our bank account. We don’t accept money in any other way.

The majority of the consultants charge £300 for the first consultation and £200 for a follow-up consultation. Some consultants may need to do some tests during the initial consultation with additional costs. All the costs will be made clear to you in advance. Some consultants requested that we take the initial consultation fee (£300) with our registration fee and for us to pay them. If this is the case, then you may pay us the registration fee and the cost of the initial consultation. We will then pay the consultant the full cost of the initial consultation. If you want to pay the cost of the initial consultation to the consultant directly and the consultant is happy for you to do that then that’s fine with us.

Further financial arrangements for your tests and treatments are according to your wishes. If you want to pay the consultant and the medical facility directly, then that’s fine with us. If you want to pay us and we then pay the consultant and the medical facility, then that’s fine with us. If the consultant and the medical facility want to get paid through us, then that’s also fine with us. We are happy to get involved and facilitate things if you wish us to do so.
